In some situations when you need to be very discreet, voice communication may not be the best solution. This can for example be when an undercover security officer is out patrolling to identify security threats or a guard preventing shoplifting. The solution is a new feature called tone signalling.
Tone signalling can be initiated by pressing a bluetooth button in the pocket to confirm to the central dispatcher and team members that a suspect has been spotted. By using short press and long press and multi-press it is possible to communicate different messages without the need to use voice.
In GroupTalk web admin the tone signalling feature can be enabled on a per talk group basis. Users will immediately see when the feature is available in the applications as the PTT button splits into two, with a new tone signalling button on the screen. As always, feature buttons are only displayed when the feature is enabled. The tone signalling feature can be activated on screen, but the user experience is generally better when mapped to a physical button on a mobile device or bluetooth accessory.
