Coordinating 12,500 football fans with GroupTalk

When more than 12,500 football fans were transported by 205 buses from Deventer to Rotterdam for the KNVB Cup Final, seamless event security communication and real-time coordination were essential. Managing such a large-scale football event required reliable, business-critical group communication to keep fans safe and traffic under control.

GroupTalk was delivered by partner Flash Connectivity Group together with Vigilans Group, the Dutch security team responsible for on-site operational coordination. With over 28 years of experience, Flash provides secure and reliable private network solutions for public safety, industry, logistics, and healthcare.

Using GroupTalk’s Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) solution, guards, traffic coordinators, and operational leaders communicated in shared talk groups across buses, the field, the stadium, and command vehicles. As celebrations continued in Deventer, the system was quickly scaled to support more users, allowing uninterrupted operations and demonstrating how GroupTalk enables secure, efficient communication for stadium security and large public events – even under high pressure.

Push to Talk communication at Roparun

When hundreds of teams and thousands of participants take on the 500 km Roparun relay race, reliable communication is essential. For the event, our partner Flash selected GroupTalk to secure voice coordination across both the French and Dutch routes.

“This year we wanted to take another step in professionalizing our operations,” said Hugo van Hees, Race Director at Roparun. “We had been using two-way radios, but the lack of channel separation in the control room created chaos. With the new solution from Flash and GroupTalk, everything worked flawlessly.”

Using the GroupTalk app and PC dispatch, the Roparun control room gained full control over communication flow with separated channels, real-time GPS visibility, and instant contact between field users and dispatchers. “Especially during incidents, you want communication to be fast and easy,” van Hees explained. “GroupTalk made that possible, and Flash supported us on-site throughout the race to make sure everything was working perfectly.” “We’re extremely satisfied with the collaboration,” he added. “The communication solution significantly contributed to the safety and success of this year’s Roparun.”
