Text messaging in GroupTalk

Text messaging in GroupTalk

Messaging is very useful to communicate precise information such as addresses, names, phone numbers, descriptions, codes, instructions, etc.

Messaging in GroupTalk is new functionality that will allow a PC Dispatch to send messages to groups of users or individual users on mobile devices. The mobile users can then read the message and have the option to reply. These messages can contain text and images.

Messaging is very useful to communicate precise information such as addresses, names, phone numbers, descriptions, codes, instructions, etc.

Messaging in GroupTalk is not just for communication between users, but also a platform for providing messages from other systems. The “message gateway” in GroupTalk can receive messages such as fire alarms, power failure, stuck elevator, broken pump (IoT alarms), etc. and pass them onto GroupTalk users.

The GroupTalk “message gateway” is functionality that can replace SMS based messaging solutions. SMS based solutions are “best effort” meaning that there is no guarantee that the message has reached its recipient and SMS solutions do not scale well if you want to send out large numbers of messages simultaneously. Administration of SMS solutions and lists is typically cumbersome. With the GroupTalk Messaging service, the limitations of traditional SMS based solutions are all gone.

For customers that are still using traditional paging systems, they will find that Messaging in GroupTalk in combination with the “message gateway” is an opportunity for a modern and better user experience as the “pager moves into the smartphone”.
